Social networking has become overwhelmingly more influential both in and out of the business world. Though it’s relatively easy to interact with people about personal topics, social media has become a powerful business tool. The most specifically business-geared social media channel is LinkedIn. As mentioned in a Mashable article, “Whether you’re a job seeker, consultant, entrepreneur or happily employed, LinkedIn can be an incredible asset for your career. You can connect to over 120+ million professionals in over 200 countries around the world.” It would almost be wasteful for businesses not to take advantage of LinkedIn and its ability to connect infinite amounts of people to your brand.
To be able to attract results from LinkedIn, it’s important to have a well-developed LinkedIn presence for your brand. There are several ways to make this happen:
Establish yourself: Create a personal profile and fill it in completely. This is an opportunity for you to relay all that you personally have to offer: your experience, expertise and all other pertinent information about yourself. Be sure to upload a photo also. It makes you more personal and credible, and so more people are likely to interact with you.
Build a strong network: Start by adding friends and colleagues. This can be done easily by importing your address book. Once you have a few contacts, LinkedIn will suggest others you may know based on mutual acquaintances.
Ask colleagues to provide you a recommendation: This illustrates that you are of value to those that have worked with you.
Integrate all your information to this one portal: LinkedIn allows you to link to several pages, so add your website URL, social media links or any other websites that may be relevant. This helps in increasing your search availability. LinkedIn is considered an established authority by Google, so the information contained on it is public and likely to be indexed within search results.
Engage: Join groups relevant to your business, and pay attention to the conversations that take place within those communities. This is a great opportunity for you to not only get your name out, but display your expertise as well. Answer questions, partake in discussions and offer feedback when you can.
Create a company page for your business: Go to the “companies” tab, then “create company.” The wizard will take you through the set-up process. Like with your personal page, be sure to fill out your company one thoroughly to relay all the wonderful things your business offers, what sets you apart from others, etc. All of this will help potential clients or customers to able to more fully assess if you’d be a good match for whatever it is they’re looking for.
